"The [Inay(an)] System (of Eskrima) is Complete" ~ Mangisursuro Inay 1944-2000

Want to be strong? Learn Eskrima! and become strong!

Today in Santa Clara, the afternoon class I teach worked on sparring and conditioning drills. I start off with an idea for training I got from an old Samurai saying, "A thousand sword strokes polishes the soul".

These guys were hitting fast and hard, learning how to go high and low, moving back and forth. Charging attacks and multi-strike combos were focused on for nearly 45 minutes. Then we focused on timing skills, so that we can take advantage of openings in our opponents attacks.

Everyone was sweating, some were smiling, all knew that Inayan Eskrima is a work out when applied right, thats the way my dad did it, its the way I do it! Minus a few bumps and blisters everyone had a great time learning how Inayan Eskrima can make you not only fit and ready to fight, but also very intense.

I wonder, should every class be this physically intense? What do you guys think?

I would love for every class

I would love for every class to have some kind conditioning element.  I realize we only have a prescribed amount of time but it would be nice.  I have started to do conditioning at home but its more "fun" sharing the pain.  My workouts consist of sprinting for 15 seconds and resting for 15 seconds.  This went on for 15 minutes and I was done.

you know me, I'm into it

you know me, I'm into it all.
I prefer not to do plain old conditioning (I prefer to do that on my own time), but if it's intensity of training eskrima that conditions us, i'm into it.
and anything involving sparring of any kind, i'm into it.
