"The [Inay(an)] System (of Eskrima) is Complete" ~ Mangisursuro Inay 1944-2000
We had a great Mangisursuro Mike Inay Memorial Workout, this was his 9th anniversary of his passing, and we all met up "Where it all started". It's been many many years since the backyard here in Los Gatos was first used as a training area for Eskrima. The backyard has seen such notables as Grand Master Angel Cabales, Grand Master Leo Giron, Grand Master Max Sarmiento, Maha Guro Dan Inosanto, just to name a few. Lots of history here...
So this last Sunday, the 20th of September 2009, we held our memorial work out. We did some basics and covered "Hidden Hits" and "Reserrada" and then finished up with some Lock and Block and Flow Spar.. Nothing fancy, just good ol' fundamentals and core exercises in tribute to a great teacher. Mangisursuro Mike Inay started his system of martial art, the Inayan System of Eskrima here, and at his art's birthplace we bled a little and sweated allot in honor of him.
The food after was great! Adobo, and Lechon had to be my particular favorite. Everything from Breakfast Burritos to Angelica's famous guacamole was there to be enjoyed. Was a super great time, and was great to have Sursuro Inay, Sursuro De Fanti, Sursuro Peterson, Guro Levy, and Guro Hutchinson there to lead the class as well as share some personal memories about the founder of our system of martial art and self defense.
The 5th generation of Inay Family Eskrimadors was there too, getting an opportunity to know a little more about her grandfather through his students and students of students. All in all, a great time.
Mabuhay ng Inayan Systema ng Eskrima!
Iti Dayaw,
Suro Inay
